The two structures to being an overcomer, as a believer, are

1.) The blood of Jesus

2.) The word of our testimony.

Jesus paid it all by the blood. By the blood, we all have the opportunity to walk as an overcomer. When you are born of God, you are not trying to be an overcomer, you ARE an overcomer. It is not your job to try to become what you already are. It is, however, your job to live in the reality of what he has already done for you. Yes, this is a repetitive statement throughout this series. Because it is vitally important to understand it. All you have to do, is live in the results of what God has already done. You are an overcomer right now! RIGHT NOW!

So how do you thrive in this life as an overcomer? How do you maintain being and living as an overcomer? The key is by the word of your testimony. Seems too simple, right? Let’s keep digging, what is your testimony? What you are confessing and declaring into your life, is vital! What have you been proclaiming over and about your life? What about those around you? What have you been speaking into and over them? The bible tells us in Proverbs 18:21, that life and death are in the power of our tongue. What has been on your tongue?

What you say, maintains who you are. Do you know how important your testimony is? Way more important than your sweet little mind just thought! It is an essential fruit of the gospel! It is not enough to believe in your heart; you must confess with your mouth. Words are not just letters on a page or screen. They are not just sounds you use; they carry authority and power. Your words can cause you to grow, or they can cause you not to grow. Words are not just used to describe what you see, but to build what you want to see. For example, when God spoke to the darkness and said, “Let there be light”. God was not denying the darkness but speaking to what He desired. Likewise, you can declare by faith! Yes, Siree! Your words impact your right now and your words create!

When words are released from your mouth, they can be turned into weapons. What you declare today will either fight for you or against you. If you are having trouble in your job? Maybe your marriage, maybe trouble with a child or finances? Stop to think, “What am I speaking over these situations?” Let me ask you this way, are you letting defeated things dictate your life? Are your own words holding you hostage? Life and death are not in your circumstances, battles, or situations. It’s IN YOUR WORDS! Your own tongue can come against you! This is why people struggle with the same things over and over, and why others live as overcomers. Every morning you have the opportunity to determine how your day goes.

Proverbs 18:21, “Those who love it will eat the fruit of its kind.”

Your life is a byproduct of your words. A composite of what you have spoken. Let’s take a moment, and I really want you to take 5 minutes and really think about this. If we took all the words of your mouth over the past 6 months, put them on replay, what do you think it sounds like? I’ll wait…..

What did it sound like? Cringy, isn’t it? Are you seeing what life you have been declaring? Are you biting your lip or smiling right now? Heaven on earth or hell on earth, is spoken out by your own tongue. Your speech is a direct comparison to your thoughts. What you meditate on will take root. “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth.” Matthew 12:34 ESV. Your words are regurgitated thoughts. Kind of a gross thought, but none the less. Your heart will be revealed, through your words, your actions, and in your life, it will come to light.

How does your home look and feel? What kind of atmosphere are you living in? One of the first ways to set the atmosphere in your home, is by what you feed the atmosphere, music, tv, etc. The second way you set the atmosphere in your home is by your tongue. You can speak life over your home! You can plead the blood by your tongue! What you say and declare matters in the spiritual realm. The bible says you will give an account for every careless word you have spoken (Matthe 12:36). That one, that one is weighty. But it should be! What are you saying about others? What are others saying about you? Who you have around you also matters. What you say about others matters.  You may think you watch your words, but when you’re alone you may find yourself speaking things you shouldn’t. This is an area that we all need to improve on, regardless of where we are in Life. Seed does not lie; you will produce what you sow. Watch your words intently!

James 3:3-5, “If we put bits into the mouths of horses so that they obey us, we guide their whole bodies as well. Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things.” ESV

Your tongue may be small, but it carries power! Your problem is not in the crisis or circumstance. It is in yourself; it is in your tongue. Taming your tongue is one of the most essential things to living as an overcomer. You will not tame your tongue by praying harder or coming to church, but dedication and discipline. Be attentive and practice! Not just what you are speaking, but about what you are meditating on! It may be difficult, but the reward is priceless! The words of your testimony, that of a believer, should be controlled conviction, controlled passion, and controlled purpose.

CHANGE YOUR WORDS, CHANGE YOUR LIFE!
