Do not be a hearer only. be active! Live in the results of being healed, of prospering, of winning, of peace, of being an OVERCOMER!
1 John 5:4-5, “For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world-our faith.”
You are different, my friend. You are not just another fingerprint on this earth. You are very significant, and you have a purpose on this earth. What makes us so different? It is God’s presence that makes us different. He can use you and do great things through you. When you can see yourself and think about yourself the way God does, oh my! So, how do we see ourselves the way God does? I am so glad you asked! This is one of my favorite topics; we have to allow Christ to transform our minds!
Romans 12:2, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
Scripture tells us, as you think in your heart so are you. The quality of your life is the result of your thoughts.
Do you not know how powerful your thoughts are? The quality of your thoughts, dictate the quality of your life. Read that again, the quality of your thoughts, dictate the quality of your life. Your thoughts directly affect your actions. They also influence your feelings. If you do not renew your mind, then you let your feelings dictate your life. And we all know how badly that goes. Did you know, you can limit God with your thinking? Yes, sadly true. A thought kept the people out of the promise land. The land that God had promised them. Just a thought! A tiny little few words that seemed harmless. But that unchecked thought was a scenario that became their reality. (Sniff. Sniff) Is that not the saddest? Small thinking keeps you from your blessings. What do you think your thinking has kept you from?
As a believer, you have the ability and capacity to change your thoughts. I know, I know, easier said than done. But you have to. Your thoughts have patterns shaped by your life. These patterns of thoughts will dictate your life. So many believers are prisoners in their own mind! Let go of the mindset of who you use to be or maybe who you are right now. Stop letting the old you or world you, dictate the new you. We are not talking about self-help but a spiritual shift. An overhaul and spiritual renewal in Christ Jesus! Line up with God’s truth!
Paul told us to renew our thinking and work out our salvation. The strongest force you have, and this will change your life, ready, is your mind! Do not take that lightly, it is the most important thing as a believer, to renew your mind. If you do not take captive your thoughts, one poising thought can affect your whole life. Addictions, theft, murder, adultery, all start with just a thought. Mind you, it is not a sin to have a thought. The sin is meditating on the thought. How do you take those thoughts captive? Do not ponder on it, take it and cast that dark devilish thing out! Rebuke it and let it go! You cannot renew your mind by just praying over it, but by exercising and training your thoughts. Yes, it is a process, and it takes a lot of determination. But you can do it!
Do not conform to this world. Be attentive to what is being thrown at you. Be attentive to what you are absorbing from the world around you. What you dwell on and what you meditate on, that becomes the way you think. Like social media! The big ugly in our culture today. It creates a false sense of reality and changes the way you do things, then it effects the way you live.
Proverbs 4:20-22, “My son. Be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh.” (ESV) (TPT) has a great translation of this verse.
The desires of the flesh will dissipate, as you renew your mind. How, you ask? The word of God is the only way to renew your mind. You set your mind by the things you meditate on, set your mind on things above. Strengthen your spirit by getting in the word of God. Do not allow your flesh to be stronger than your spirit. And no, you cannot and will not, renew your mind by just coming to church and only hearing the word of God on Sunday mornings. Not even attending every Wednesday night service. Yappers, I went there! Coming to church does not transform your mind. Spending the time at home, alone with God, will renew your mind. You may say, “But, I have been praying for God to renew me and I am waiting for Him to do that.”. Why would you wait for God to renew your mind, when it is your responsibility to transform your own mind? But it’s not working, you say? Renewing your mind, is not a one-day event. Daily we need to be attentive to actively and continually renewing our mind. Yes, it takes time. But one day you will look back and see how far you have come. As you renew your mind, those spiritual gifts God placed in you, will be active and more prominent. God is right beside us, helping us through every step. But it is our responsibility to take captive every thought and renew our minds. Strive to renew your mind with the word of truth. Because to know God’s word, is to know God.
Be attentive to the daily process. Transform your mind, renew your mind, and watch God do wonders!
